6 Relatable Reasons Why You Avoid Family Photos

So, you want family photos, but you don’t want to get family photos. There’s a ton of mental load and planning that goes into it. So, in the end you just…don’t… And I don’t blame you. You’re not the only one who doesn’t want (or have the time) to go through the headache of planning. But you don’t have to do this alone. Read on to see how I can help you with the pain points of getting professional family photos.

1.

You have nothing to wear and/or don’t want to plan outfits for the entire family.

You’ve scheduled family photos. Now you’ve got to pick out what to wear…for the whole family. Whether it’s just you and your partner in a maternity session or newborn photos for your 5th child, styling your family can be stressful. It’s one of the most important components affecting the style or vibe of your photos. I don’t want my clients to worry about wardrobe, so I have a client closet of dresses for mothers and styling guidance for the rest of your family.

2.

You are worried if your kids don’t behave the photo session is going to be a disaster.

If your kids are like mine, they somehow manage to act up at the worst times. like, when time is of the essence, and you really need them to act domesticated for just a little while. Nope. This is when Hyper Harper and Energetic Emmett come out to play. Luckily, I get it. I live it. And I can work with it. Instead of trying to make your kids sit still and pose, I’ll work with their energy level and mood to get emotive photos of you and your kids loving each other.

3.

You don’t like the way you look and definitely don’t want it documented.

You are not alone. We’re constantly bombarded with photos of unattainable beauty (they’re all photoshopped) and it’s hard not to compare yourself. But I promise you, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! But don’t take my word for it. Just notice the way your kids admire you. Yes I know they have tantrums and scream at you and maybe even say “I hate you!” But only a child who feels completely loved and safe would treat you like that (For reals. Science says so). You are the most beautiful person in the universe to them. And someday, you will want to look back on these early days (or whatever days you are in now). And so will they. I’m here to help you look and feel your very best. And if professional hair and makeup will give you that boost you need, I got your back!

4.

You just had a baby and don’t want to leave the house with them, yet.

Okay this one’s easy. You don’t want to take your newborn out to a studio to get their photos taken? Don’t. Sit tight, I’ll come to you. Maybe you’re worried about them getting sick, maybe you’re healing and don’t want to leave your house, maybe you’re dead tired and driving just seems like a bad idea. “But I want studio style photos!”, you say? No problem. I’ll bring a little studio, props, lighting, set it up in your living room (or wherever) and get the studio look you want. If you want photos of you, your partner and possibly other kids with your newborn? I do that too.

5.

You want photos in a beautiful location but don’t know where to go.

My friend, I’ve already got places picked out. Waterside, forest backdrop, open field or even “I have no clue”, don’t worry. I’ll text you the address and all you gotta do is meet me there.

6.

You are super busy and finding the time for a portrait session is overwhelming.

Okay so, I can’t make you have more time (I’m a photographer not a fairy godmother for goodness’ sake!) BUT after I’ve picked out your clothes, scheduled your hair and makeup and picked out your location (or possibly just planning to come to your home) hopefully, you feel like you don’t have to invest much time into planning a portrait session. MY goal is to take enough off your plate that you can take a breath and tell yourself, “I can do this!”

So, stop worrying about every last detail (easier said than done, I know) and get those photos with your partner, your newborn and your precious babies. Because yeah, they’re only little once (sorry for the very tired cliche). So, if you want to pause time for just a second and hold on to those moments just a little longer, I’m here to help with that.

Maybe I AM a fairy godmother…
